Eight counted Australian results from January 2022 to June 2026, $197,000 to $370,000 - the fullest local series on any car in this expansion. A ninth lot is held aside because two sources report its price $2,500 apart. These prices reach this library through a third-party compiler rather than from the selling house: Collecting Cars publishes the car, the date, the suburb, the odometer and the condition report, and puts the final figure behind a login. They are carried as evidence on that basis and the provenance is stated here so it can be weighed.

The green band is the even-money range and the one to plan on: half of outcomes land inside it. The pale band behind it bounds eight in ten ($218,254 to $365,331). The path is this model's own: it starts along the momentum of its recorded history and bends toward its projected median as the horizon lengthens, so no two cars share a future curve.

The verdict

Strong within its price band. Scores 68/100, ranking 24 of 104 in the over $100k band. Demand durability is the strongest input, risk resilience the weakest.
Running it costs about $12,820 a year (4.6% of value), which is what the economics score measures. All in, including the projected value change, it is $17,082 a year.
The model's five year median is $274,511, a -1.1% move, with the tenth percentile at $218,254.

Reported as 'over $300,000 plus buyer's premium' - the exact hammer figure was not published, so $300,000 is a reported floor.
8 completed Australian sales of 9 rows. Rows marked asking, no sale, or context are shown for honesty but do not count toward the evidence grade: an ask is not a transaction, a pass-in is a refusal, and a provenance or overseas result does not price the ordinary local car. The badge on every row is computed by the same rule as the grade, so the two cannot drift apart.

No forecast is used to compute the hurdle. It is the purchase, the duty, any premium and 5 years of running cost, grossed up for the cost of selling and spread back over the hold. The projection it is measured against is the weakest number in this product and is drawn that way in the chart above. Transport, finance and any restoration spend sit outside it.

The case for and against

The case for

Four hundred cars for Japan, sixteen for Britain and five for Australia, and this country holds a disproportionate share of what survives. Two published Australian results at $360,000 and $300,000 in a single week of January 2022 show the depth of the local bid.

The case against

It went to $370,000 in 2022, corrected to $197,000 in 2023 and has recovered to about $290,000 - a range of nearly two to one on the same car in four years. Replicas built on WRX Type R coupes exist here and are convincing.

Known faults and risks

Risk 1Widebody replicas built on WRX and STi Type R coupes circulate in Australia
Risk 2Chassis, build plaque, EJ22G engine prefix and build number all need checking
Risk 3Original BBS wheels, front lip and numbered plaque are unobtainable if missing
Authenticity - chassis, build plaque, EJ22G prefix and build number all agree (verify before purchase)documentation
Ringland failure and piston damage on the EJ22G, rebuild with bespoke internals$26,500
Missing or damaged original 17in BBS gold wheels, front lip or numbered plaque, all unobtainable$16,500
Rust in strut towers, rear arches and boot floor on Japanese-market cars$9,500
Head gasket failure, endemic across the EJ family$6,000

This is the best-evidenced car in the whole expansion

EIGHT COUNTED AUSTRALIAN RESULTS ACROSS FOUR YEARS, PLUS A NINTH THAT TWO SOURCES PRICE DIFFERENTLY. It opens with two lots a day apart in January 2022 at the top of the market - car 258 of 400 in Sydney on 71,003km, believed-original World Rally Blue paint, reported at $360,000 by CarExpert and at $362,500 by the aggregator, which is why it is held aside rather than counted, and car 132 at $300,000 the following day on 113,506km, sold for the Australian Financial Security Authority. Then $370,000 in May 2022, $325,000 in April 2022, $197,000 in June 2023, $261,500 in February 2025, $228,000 in August 2025, $243,500 in November 2025 and $290,000 in June 2026. Australia trades a 424-car model often enough to draw a curve on it, which is remarkable in itself.

The swing is the story

$370,000 at the 2022 top, $197,000 at the 2023 bottom, $228,000 to $261,500 through 2025 and $290,000 in June 2026. Nearly two to one on the same model inside eighteen months, and the recovery since has been partial rather than complete. Any value here is a point on a swing, and the figure is placed above the trough and well below the peak deliberately.

Authenticity is the whole risk

Four hundred and twenty-four cars were built, of which four hundred went to Japan, sixteen to the United Kingdom, five to Australia and three were prototypes. Widebody replicas built on WRX and STi Type R coupes exist in this country and are convincing at a distance. The chassis sequence GC8E2SD, the build plaque, the EJ22G engine prefix and the build number all have to agree before any of the money above applies.
