Solid line: the value this library has carriedDashed from 2026: modelled · even money $144,534 to $231,379
The green band is the even-money range and the one to plan on: half of outcomes land inside it. The pale band behind it bounds eight in ten ($110,491 to $275,596). The path is this model's own: it starts along the momentum of its recorded history and bends toward its projected median as the horizon lengthens, so no two cars share a future curve.

The verdict

A defensible case with reservations. Scores 60/100, ranking 56 of 104 in the over $100k band. Scarcity is the strongest input, liquidity the weakest.
Running it costs about $6,550 a year (4.4% of value), which is what the economics score measures. All in, including the projected value change, it is $1,588 a year.
The model's five year median is $182,312, a +21.5% move, with the tenth percentile at $110,491.
Value calibrated to a thin record. Treat the level as provisional.

Scored against every recent Australian sale this library holds, half its values land within 11.2 per cent of the price paid and the rest miss by more, in either direction. Projections are therefore damped toward flat in proportion to how little is known, and the plausible band is never narrower than the error the model is known to make.

Rows marked asking, no sale, or context are shown for honesty but do not count toward the evidence grade: an ask is not a transaction, a pass-in is a refusal, and a provenance or overseas result does not price the ordinary local car. The badge on every row is computed by the same rule as the grade, so the two cannot drift apart.

Cost of access is what the car costs to run. All-in annualised adds depreciation, duty and selling costs across a five year hold. They answer different questions and are labelled separately for that reason.

No forecast is used to compute the hurdle. It is the purchase, the duty, any premium and 5 years of running cost, grossed up for the cost of selling and spread back over the hold. The projection it is measured against is the weakest number in this product and is drawn that way in the chart above. Transport, finance and any restoration spend sit outside it.

Five-year cost of ownership
Value change alone: +$32,312 across five years.
Running costs over the same period: $32,750.
Duty and expected selling costs: $7,500.
Net cost of five years of ownership: $7,940, or $1,588 a year.
The projected value rise offsets part of the running cost. It does not make the car free to own.

The case for and against

The case for

Rarer than an XU-1 and cheaper than the Escorts it shared a homologation programme with, with a genuine Australian-delivered pool that most British specials never had.

The case against

One six-year-old sale is the entire transaction record, so the value is closer to researched than its grade suggests; and standard Capris wearing RS3100 clothes outnumber real cars at asking-price level.

Known faults and risks

One sale on the official sheet

A restored car made $133,001 at the November 2020 Spring timed auction, lot 173 - a single result, six years old, and the whole Australian transaction record for the model. The value above it is that result plus the appreciation every comparable homologation Ford has shown since, and it should be read with exactly that much confidence and no more.

The Australian accident

The RS3100 was built in a hurry - 248 cars with the ducktail and the bored-out Essex to homologate the Cologne Capri's 3.4 - and when the fuel crisis killed UK sales, around 50 unsold cars were shipped new to Australia, which is why a British homologation special has a genuine Australian-delivered population and a local collector base that knows chassis numbers by heart.

What moves a car

Original spoilers and panels, since the ducktail and chin spoiler that define the car are also the first things a road accident removed.
