Condition, history, originality, ownership, delivery and modification multipliers apply to every car in the library. They are applied automatically when an advertisement is analysed, and the schedule is set out once, on the analyser page.

The case for and against
The 2JZ is the most famous Japanese engine ever built and stock manual RZs are nearly extinct. The curve has compounded for a decade.
Almost every survivor is modified. The headline prices belong to a tiny stock minority. Australian evidence is one auction result from a museum dispersal, and the international record is too mixed across variants to read a price direction from at all.
Known faults and risks
Similar cars, and what they cost to run
This record pools six-speed cars with four-speed automatics and has been flagged for it since the library-wide audit of 6 September. There is now enough to say what the pooling costs. Normalised to the 110,000 kilometres this entry expects, at its own 1.2 per cent per 10,000: the manual line runs $86,700, $75,700, $63,200 and $46,700 with a $102,500 peak-market outlier from 2021, for a median of $75,700. The automatic line runs $51,400, $51,200 and $35,600, for a median of $51,200.

And the single carried value sits +3.1 per cent against the manual median and +52.2 per cent against the automatic. So the blend is already a manual number wearing a single price, and anyone reading it for a four-speed is reading a figure half again too high.
$78,000 is within three per cent of the manual median it effectively describes, and splitting the record leaves three results a side, which this library has already measured as noisier than the pool. What changes is the disclosure: read $78,000 as the manual figure, and an automatic RZ-S at around $51,000.
On 7 September, with the lot at $35,250 from 43 bids and three days to run, the published bidding note called this the worst case of the pooling fault and put the record first in the queue to be split. The lot then made $75,000 and the call was a hit at 1.3 per cent. Forty-three bids at three days out was read as a room testing the number. It was a room warming up, and the same note that got the pooling right got the bidding exactly backwards. The bidding note stands as published.
A 262,022-kilometre automatic RZ-S made $45,200 at Thomastown in August 2026, against $50,500 for a 121,997-kilometre automatic in May 2026 and $35,750 for a 105,809-kilometre automatic in October 2025. Twice the distance of the weakest automatic and twenty-six per cent more money.
- the four manuals already on this record fit at only minus 0.212, and the automatics now disagree with distance outright. Condition, originality of the 2JZ and whether the car has documentation are doing the work, and the August car had none of the third: the seller states it has been serviced with no documentary evidence on file, and it still cleared $45,200.
Four manual twin-turbos - $90,500 at 73,499km in March 2026, $100,000 at 130,304km in August 2021, $65,500 at 79,836km in February 2024 and $45,250 at 135,116km in July 2023 - correlate with distance at only minus 0.212. Distance is not what separates these cars.
Exactly as it was for the S14 elsewhere in this library: $100,000 at 130,304 kilometres has not been approached since, and the March 2026 result of $90,500 at half that distance is the closest anything has come in five years.
$50,500 at 121,997km in May 2026 and $35,750 at 105,809km in October 2025, roughly half manual money. The value moves $95,000 to $78,000, between the recent manual result and what the automatics and the weaker manuals support. A 145,000-kilometre manual failed to sell in April 2025. SOURCING: aggregator-surfaced results, unconfirmed against the auction house, the weakest evidence grade here.
A 1998 RZ made $74,000 at Donington Auctions in June 2021, sold out of the Bryan Thomson private museum. That is the only named Australian auction result for the model. It came from a collection dispersal rather than an ordinary consignment, which is worth knowing but does not make it less real. An aggregator also records eighteen Australian Supra results averaging $51,250 with a maximum of $100,000, but those span every variant from the naturally aspirated SZ upward, so the average does not describe an RZ.
Eighty-two lots, 72 per cent clearing once repeat offerings are collapsed. No direction is read from the prices: the spread is 2.06 times upper quartile to lower, which puts this record over the threshold where movement is variant mix rather than market. The range runs from a naturally aspirated SZ at JPY3,125,001 to twin-turbo cars at US$300,000, and includes a Fast and Furious movie car at US$550,000, a Top Secret build and a GT500 - all set aside. One event distorts the record and is flagged in the clearance figure: on 4 June 2022 a single American sale offered fourteen A80 Supras from one collection and thirteen sold, which is 23 per cent of every Supra sale in the entire international record, from one consignor in one room on one day. A motivated seller clearing a collection is not the market clearing.
It sat in this record as an aggregator range endpoint spanning every Supra variant, flagged as not the market for this car and excluded from the fitted value - while the prose above it already treated the same figure as the August 2021 manual peak. The lot page settles it: 31 August 2021, Maroochydore, Queensland, 130,304 kilometres, a 1997 RZ twin turbo on the six-speed V160, white over black, imported in November 2017 and in a single private Australian ownership since, largely original. It is a named Collecting Cars sale of exactly the car this record describes, and it now counts as one. The value does not change - the reasoning already used it - but the record no longer contradicts itself about the highest Australian result it holds.
