The case for and against
A genuinely rare final-edition FD RX-7 with an estimated 350 Australian deliveries, and values have more than doubled since 2016 on global cult demand. It represents the last and most refined iteration of the twin-turbo rotary before production ended.
The 13B-REW rotary carries a well known apex seal failure risk that makes verified rebuild history essential before buying. Running costs are high due to fuel consumption and specialist rotary servicing, and the market is very thin at 60 days on market. The market has also come off its 2022 high: a car passed in at a $190,000 reserve in February 2023 three months after another sold at $130,000, so sellers are ahead of buyers.

Similar cars, and what they cost to run
$97,000 at Narre Warren VIC on 8 March 2024 at 64,106 kilometres; $90,000 at Underwood QLD on 9 December 2024 at 69,048 kilometres; $90,000 at Greensborough VIC on 12 June 2026 at 79,405 kilometres. Against Shannons results of $160,000 in February 2022 and $130,000 in November 2022, that is a market that fell hard and then stopped falling.

Minus 4.1 per cent per 10,000 kilometres, R-squared 0.56, returning about $92,000 at 72,000 kilometres.
And expected distance moves from 110,000 kilometres to 72,000, which is where Spirit Rs actually turn up - all three sit between 64,000 and 80,000.
A single-turbo GT3584 conversion on the dearest, a full respray on the second, and a REPLACEMENT REBUILT ENGINE on the third. No unmolested Spirit R has traded publicly here since 2022, and until one does, the figure is a floor for the variant rather than a price for a perfect example.
Type A $90,000 to $97,000; Type B $65,500 in January 2025 and $68,555 in June 2026; Type C $56,055 in January 2025. The Type A carries about 35 per cent over a Type B and 60 per cent over a Type C. An ordinary Series 8 Type RB-S made $46,500 in May 2025, roughly half a Type A.
Two of these listings say 'one of only 1,044 built' and the third says 'number 139 of just 1,500'. Both are right about different things - 1,044 is the Type A alone and roughly 1,500 covers the whole Spirit R run across A, B and C. A seller quoting 1,500 is describing the series, not the variant, and the scarcity that matters here is the 1,044.
